Meet The Horses

Barney
Barney--registered as Sugar Valley Barney--is a Standardbred rescued from a kill pen in Pennsylvania. Before coming to Mercy Reins, he was likely owned by the Amish and used as a cart horse.
When he arrived, he was underweight, and his feet were in poor condition, but his bright personality quickly began to shine through.
Since joining the Mercy REins family in 2023, Barney has revealed himself to be a true extrovert. Curious and full of character, he's never shy about expressing his opinions--or his desire for attention! Though he can be a bit unceratin at times, his gentle heart and eagerness to please make him a joy and adventure to be around. Barney loves being groomed, pampered, and made to feel special--which, of course, he absolutely is!

Cass
Cass (Casimir Hugs) is a registered Standardbred who once raced with impressive speed, earning her owners over $40,000 before retiring to a life as a broodmare. Over the years, she produced eight foals who collectively earned more than $1 Million on the racetrack.
Despite her success, Cass found herself caught in the slaughter pipeline. When she was rescued from a kill pen, she arrived at the farm thin, weary, and wary of people.
In 2023, she came home to Mercy Reins, where patience, care, and consistency helped her begin to trust again.
Today, Cass is a picture of transformation--healthy, confident, and full of life. She's often the first to greet us at the gate, eager for attention and affection from the humans she once distrusted.

Blaze
Blaze came to us after being surrendered by his previous owner, and while much of his past is a mystery, his gentle spirit speaks volumes.
He's a loyal, affectionate horse who loves to be near people and his herd alike. Blaze's sweetness sometimes makes him an easy target for playful teasing from his pasture mates, but he takes it all in stride.
He thrives on attention, enjoys learning new things, and is always eager to earn a cookie--or two--for his efforts.

Belle
Belle was rescued from a kill pen in Pennsylvania. When she arrived, she was overweight, with very unhealthy feet—clear signs of long-term neglect.
Since coming to Mercy Reins, she has become our beloved little mascot. Belle is as sweet as they come—she loves attention, snuggles, and never says no to a treat!
Her easygoing nature makes her a wonderful companion for any horse, yet she’s confident enough not to let others push her around. Mischievous, curious, and endlessly patient, Belle adores people of all ages and has truly become a bright spot in the barn.
